Remember Eminem’s Wife? Look At What She’s Doing Today…

Kim Mathers and Eminem have had a tumultuous relationship for over two decades. Mathers and Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, met as teenagers when he was 15 and she was 13. Kim and her twin sister Dawn ran away from home when they met and lived with the rapper and his mom that same year.
Fame, drugs, and alcohol fuelled their often volatile relationship. Nonetheless, Kim and Eminem welcomed a daughter named Hailie in 1995 and married in 1999. Two years later they called it quits. The rapper included a song in his 2000 album The Marshall Mathers LPcalled “Kim.”
The lyrics were filled with hate, violence where the rapper kills his wive’s husband, stepson, and her. And yet the two Detroit, Michigan natives cannot seem to live without each other despite how much pain they have caused each other.

They were high school sweethearts.

Eminem had a tough childhood growing up. He was raised by a single mother after his dad abandoned the family when he was an infant and refused any type of contact with his son. Eminem began rapping when he was 14 years old.

It was the music that brought them together.

Kim spotted Eminem standing on a table shirtless, rapping to LL Cool J's "I'm Bad." The two grew up in a rough part of Detroit, Michigan. Eminem failed grade nine three times and was bullied throughout his school years. By the time he was 17, he dropped out of school.

Kim and Eminem began to build a life together.

The couple welcomed their daughter Hailie Jade Scott on Christmas Day in 1995. Yet the couple's constant fighting began shortly after the baby's birth.

They tried to make it work but the artist's growing success and popularity sent them in opposite directions.

Eminem caught Kim kissing a bouncer from a nightclub. The rapper assaulted the man and was arrested for it. He wrote about the encounter in the "The Kiss (Skit)" song from the album The Eminem Show. Eminem was given a two year probation for the assault.

He saved most of his anger for Kim when he released the infamous song under her name.

Eminem invited Kim and her twin sister to his concert for the "Up in Smoke Tour." He had promised his ex-wife he would not be performing the "Kim" song but changed his mind at the venue. He punched and hurt a blow-up doll that was supposed to represent her in front of thousands of people. Kim left the venue, got into her car and crashed it. When she returned to her home in Detroit, she attempted suicide by slitting her wrists.

The couple remarried in January 2006. Kim later admitted the wedding felt rushed, she was not ready to take her second wedding vows. She did it because Eminem gave her an ultimatum.

A month after the wedding, Kim got into a heated argument with the rapper's brother. This angered Eminem so much he left the family home and had no contact with his wife and daughters for over a month.

The wedding bliss did not last long but they still tried to make it work.

Eminem filed the divorce papers by April 2006. The former lovers share custody of Hailie while Eminem has full custody of Whitney and Amanda. Amanda is Kim's twin sister's daughter.

Eminem had to deal with his own demons.

Although Eminem was sober by 2002, he began to get hooked on prescription pills to help him with his insomnia. He began to use valium, Ambient, and methadone. After overdosing and being told he was two hours away from death by his doctors, Eminem went into treatment for addiction. He took up running and has been clean since 2008.

Kim has also changed her life around.

She had a huge setback when her own twin sister died of a drug overdose this January. Distraught, Kim admits she tried to take her own life as she could not imagine a life without her sister.

She lives in Detroit and is raising her daughters with Eminem.

Hailie is a is a psychology student at Michigan State University, while Amanda is a public relations student at Oakland University. Their sister Whitney is 13 and being raised by Kim and Eminem.
