80 Year-Old Body Builder Proves You’re NEVER Too Old To Start Weight Training.

A day in the life of Ernestine Shepherd is not necessarily and easy one -- but it does look pretty damn rewarding. She gets up before the sun, commits each day to health and fitness, and tries to do her best at each and every task and workout routine she accomplishes. She's a woman who knows exactly what she wants and will stop at nothing to try and get it, and she's succeeded beyond her wildest expectations.
And the best part? Ernestine Shepherd is 80 years old.
With eight decades under her belt, it's pretty inspiring to see someone who is more dedicated to health and fitness than many who are years younger than her. Shepherd believes her incredible physique can be attributed to her work ethic, her drive, and one other thing that we can all learn from. Learn more about this badass grandmother below: When you're done reading this, you'll have no excuse not to go the gym today.

Ernestine Shepherd just turned 80-years-old. Hailing from Baltimore, this octogenarian looks pretty good.

Seeing a photo of her from her younger years, you can see how amazingly this woman has aged. And now, all these years later, she's still got some major tricks up her sleeve.

That's right: Shepherd is a body builder at 80 years old. Pumping iron is a way of life for her, and she looks damn good doing it.

And so far, she's show no signs of slowing down. She's happy, healthy, and is continuing to kick an extraordinary amount of ass.

Perhaps most shockingly, Shepherd didn't even start working out until she was 56 years old. Since then, she's taken her hobby to a competitive level: She's won two major bodybuilding titles, and even been named the world's oldest competitive bodybuilder in the Guinness Book of World Records.

She started by working out with her sister, who tragically died of a brain aneurysm shortly thereafter. Still, Shepherd pressed on. A woman as awesome as this must have a few secrets, right? Luckily, Shepherd shared what those secrets are.

Shepherd says that her main secret is good old fashioned discipline. She wakes up at three in the morning, runs 80 miles per week, and lives of an extremely calorie-controlled diet. But there's one more thing that this amazing woman swears by.

So what is it? She says she never, ever gives up. "Find what you like and stick with it," she said in an interview. "But remember, no matter what you do, you have to be determined. You have to be dedicated and disciplined. It takes four things to get fit: eat correctly, drink plenty of water, do some type of strength training and do some kind of cardio. Don’t listen to anyone who says you’re too old or starting out too late. Once you start exercising, honey, it’s a whole new ball game."
